False Positive Results in High-Risk Pregnancy for Chromosomal Anomalies: Psychological Considerations

Background: With a high sensitivity and specificity, non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) is an incomparable screening test for fetal aneuploidy. However, the method rather newly introduced, experiences with false positive results are few. Even rare cases of discordant may cause psychological stress.
 Aim Study: The aim this study was to examine NIPT tests in high-risk pregnancies. literature review also performed consequences results.
 Materials Methods: A retrospective conducted between 2015 2022. Natera Panorama used analyse risk trisomies 21 (Down syndrome), 18 (Edwars 13 (Patau X monosomy (Terner syndrome) other sex chromosome abnormalities. High result aneuploidy confirmed by invasive testing.
 Results: 2000 women singleton pregnancy participated study. Out 22 chromosomal anomalies were detected. Only one case trisomy overall predictive value (PPV) 21, 13, 18, XYY syndrome 95%.
 Conclusion: Our has showed only 21. However these very sensitive from bioethical point view. So such couples need further follow up sometimes even counselling. due its PPV significantly reduces testing, thereby reducing miscarriage.
